Author: Rosann Coulon

Genre: Nonfiction

Our relationships with our earthly fathers were designed to reflect our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Sadly, the reality of sin means that many of us have relationships with our dads fraught with pain, disappointment, or absence. This devotional consists of ten sections which point to God’s perfect display of fatherhood toward us as His children. Scripture readings, reflection questions, and prayers help to reveal His loving heart. If your relationship with your earthly father is marked by heartache, or if you need a rich reminder of the goodness of the Lord, 40 Days to God, My Father will be a balm to your soul.

More from Rosann

40 Days to God, My Father was born out of a difficult season with my pastor-father’s struggle with substance abuse. As I walked through the painful circumstances with my earthly father, I found myself grappling with trusting God as a good Father. I sensed the Lord inviting me on a journey to know Him as my One True Father. It was through reading the Scriptures––where I saw the Lord’s character revealed––prayer, and reflection that I found my trust restored.

I want to share the same truths I found with others who may be doubting the goodness of the Lord. Assuredly, He is the perfect Father each of us desperately needs. I pray readers will come away from the book knowing that He is faithful, loving, and kind.

Author Interview

What is your favorite genre of books? Why?

I enjoy both nonfiction and fiction. I find nonfiction inspires my faith, gives instruction, and reminds me that I’m not alone in my struggles. It’s always good to read an authentic story of transformation.

I also love reading fiction with a little (or a lot) of mystery involved. I keep audiobooks on loan from my local library and, on average, listen to one book per week. Because I’m such a deep thinker, fiction is a way for me to break up my thought patterns in a constructive way. I enjoy trying to figure out how it will end.

Are you a one project at a time author or do you have multiple projects going at once?

I tend to have multiple short form projects going because sometimes inspiration for an article or devotion comes spontaneously. I may start that project and then turn back to another one. Also, sometimes I get stuck while I’m working on a piece and I find it’s helpful to jump into a different idea that I’ve already started. This gives my brain a break and helps me come back to the piece with fresh eyes.

As far as longer projects like books, I need to focus on one at a time. I only have so much time and brainpower to devote to it, so I need to make it count. Otherwise I may never complete it.

How has your life experience helped in your writing journey?

I’ve endured hard seasons filled with pain, longing, and despair. It was in these times that I found the Lord’s goodness, faithfulness, and presence. I would say that these experiences are the reason I write. For example, my book 40 Days to God, My Father was born out of a difficult season when my pastor-father developed a dependency on medication and I found myself struggling to trust the Lord’s goodness. After spending time in the Word, prayer, and reflection, I learned God is the perfect Father who never fails, falters, or forgets. I want to share this truth with others who need encouragement.

Where do you find your greatest inspiration?

I find my greatest inspiration in reading. Reading the Bible, devotionals, and even inspirational fiction sparks ideas, reveals truths to share, and helps me find ways to express words in a meaningful way. My desire in writing is to always spread a Christ-centered message of hope with each word I pen.

Who is your favorite author? Why?

This is a tough question for me to answer because many authors have inspired me over the years. But if I have to choose one, it would be Elisabeth Elliot. I discovered her writing in my college days and continued to read her works. I appreciated her vulnerability, willingness to tackle painful topics, and ultimately point to Christ as our source for every need. She was not only a talented writer, but a wonderful encourager. I desire to do the same.
