More from Susan
Thank you so much for being part of this incredible journey. I am grateful for your support in helping to share my debut book!
I’m thrilled to introduce readers to more than just a novel—this is a journey into God’s love and mercy, reaching even the darkest places. Rooted in scripture, infused with traces of Jewish folklore, and written with the utmost respect for Jesus, 63 Hours in Hell examines themes of faith, forgiveness, redemption, and the healing of broken relationships.
If you’re a fan of The Chosen series, this book will resonate with you. It imagines what happened during Jesus’ three days in the depths of hell. The story follows a jilted bride, her brother, and the good thief on a quest: finding key fragments, freeing hell’s prisoners, fighting the devil, and facing their own inner demons.
A Special Message
Readers have shared how they found a personal message within its pages—something they needed to hear at just the right moment. I pray 63 Hours in Hell offers encouragement to you as well.
An Inspired Journey
As you can see in the photo, my furry companions have been a steady source of joy throughout my writing journey. (Fun fact: my majestic, wolf-like dog even inspired the demon dog in the book!)
An Invitation
I didn’t truly discover Jesus until later in life, which makes me even more in awe of His boundless love, sacrifice, and resurrection—and His patience throughout my personal transformation. This book is more than a story; it’s an invitation to understand why Jesus’ death and resurrection remain pivotal—yesterday, today, and forever.
Thank you for joining me on this journey and for sharing this book with others. Your support means the world to me!
Happy reading,
Susan L. Davis
Author Interview
Are you a one project at a time author or do you have multiple projects going at once?
I can only handle writing one book at a time, but I always have concrete ideas brewing for future projects. In addition to my book, I write blog posts, which provide the satisfaction of completion, a welcome feeling for a slow writer like myself.
What is the funniest thing to happen in the process of writing one of your books?
This story still makes me laugh (and cringe a little). I had just finished a call with a literary agent—the first big opportunity of my writing journey—and they’d outlined a plan to publish my book. I was on cloud nine!
But then… the unthinkable happened. The moment the call ended; the lights went out. A blown transformer fried my computer, and my entire manuscript was gone. My heart sank like a rock.
In full panic mode, I grabbed my laptop and rushed to the nearest repair shop. Picture this: I’m standing at the counter, clutching my computer like it’s my lifeline, explaining my situation to the kind shop owner. By some technical miracle, he recovered my manuscript— he brought it back from the dead, hard drive.
Looking back, it’s a funny memory, but it also reminds me that writing (and life) is full of challenges. You must keep going.
How do you relax after a long day of writing?
Every evening, whether we feel like it or not, my husband and I take our dogs for a walk. After giving out treats to the dogs (and us), I head to the computer to unwind.
Sometimes I get lost in social media, and other times I’ll dive into making a printable. For me, it feels like crafting and always helps me recharge.
Where do you find your greatest inspiration?
My greatest inspiration comes from spending time with God. I didn’t become a Christian until my 40s, and when I first opened a Bible, I was hooked. These stories and mysteries within its pages intrigued me:
The Nephilim: Who were these mysterious giants mentioned in the Bible?
When Jesus told the thief on the cross, “Today you’ll be with me in paradise,” but didn’t ascend to heaven for three days—where exactly is this “paradise”?
Why couldn’t Mary touch Jesus after His resurrection?
These questions sparked my imagination and became a key inspiration behind my book, 63 Hours in Hell.
One of my favorite ways to reflect and create is through what I call “God walks” These are peaceful, prayerful strolls while listening to worship music. Often, out of nowhere, a fresh idea or a solution to a tricky plot problem will light up in my mind.
My faith and these quiet, reflective moments fuel my creativity and serve as the foundation for the stories I tell.
Do you remember the first book you read? What sort of impact did it make on you?
I vividly remember sitting at the kitchen table when I was about five years old, listening to my mom read Jack London’s Call of the Wild to me and my older brothers. My heart sank when Buck, the family dog, was kidnapped. That moment not only hooked me on books, but also\planted the seed of my dream to become a writer.

Are there any places or settings that inspire your creativity?
Great ideas come to me when I’m walking my dogs. But I admit some of my best plot twists came to me while folding laundry or making diner.
