More from Christa
I’m a mom of two young men, a registered dietitian with a love for fresh milled bread, and gardening, and someone who believes that food, faith, and family are deeply connected. Most days you’ll find me in the kitchen with flour on my shirt, sharing laughs and recipes with my family. My kitchen is usually a little messy!
As a dietitian, I’m passionate about real food and simple meals that bring people together but as a mom, I know how hard it can be to slow down and spend time with the Lord. That’s why I created A Busy Mom’s Prayer Journal: 7 minutes to Connect with Jesus. It’s not just a devotional; it’s a mom win. It’s your permission to breathe, connect with Jesus in the middle of the sometimes-messy chaos, and remember that your prayers don’t have to be perfect or long.
You’ll find quick prayers for hectic mornings, space to scribble your thoughts while the kids nap (or don’t!), and even a few “praise break” prompts for when the laundry is endless.
If you’ve ever whispered a prayer while reheating dinner or felt like you’re doing a million things but still falling short, you’re not alone. I’ve been there, and I wrote this book with you in mind. Let’s walk this journey together — one prayer, one meal, one grace-filled moment at a time.
Author Interview
- What is your favorite genre of books? Why?
I go in streaks on different genre’s but I tend to rotate between these three: devotionals, autobiographies, and cookbooks.
- Devotionals because I love to learn insights others have gleaned from scriptures. Reading the Bible myself is my first choice but I love reading devotionals especially that friends have written. I love how to read how my friends tie in scripture with their personal stories.
- Autobiographies because I enjoy getting to know people’s life stories and how they have overcome challenges.
- Cookbooks because I am a foodie at heart. I worked as a dietitian of a culinary center for over 24 years and thus have found great love of all things food related! I love to find new recipes and experiment in the kitchen.
- How has your life experience helped in your writing journey?
I felt the Lord wanted me to write books, yet I didn’t feel equipped to do so. However, I quickly realized that 1. The Lord is with me and can help me write so I shouldn’t ever doubt myself. 2. Working as a dietitian I was often asked to write articles for my company. I had the skills, I had to learn how to redirect the skills from food to faith based writing.
- What is the funniest thing to happen in the process of writing one of your books?
When I think about writing A Busy Mom’s Prayer Journal, I didn’t so much have funny things but so many warm and special memories thinking back to when my boys were young and all the memories I was able to have with them.
- How do you relax after a long day of writing?
My husband and I work hard throughout the day and we either relax by playing a board game, reading next to each other, or by watching a tv show.
- Where do you find your greatest inspiration?
Truly, my greatest inspiration come from reading the Bible and praying! After that, I am blessed to have several amazing Christian friends who I love to bounce ideas off and brainstorm with.
- Who is your favorite author? Why?
Since I published my first book, I have become close to several indie author friends. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know the authors and the connection has grown my love for their writing. I love being able to visualize them in certain situations. Two of my favorite authors are Dr. Gladys Childs and Lori Ann Wood.
- Do you have extensive outlines when writing or do you write a book as you go?
Even though I’ve had years of schooling, I still write books backwards! I like to brain-dump all my ideas first. Then I play puzzle master, moving everything around until it flows and actually makes sense.
- Do you remember the first book you read? What sort of impact did it make on you?
This is a hard question! I grew up loving to read so I read many books! I think my grandma helped instill the love of reading in me and she loved to gift me books. One of my favorite gifts was the series Little House on the Prairie. I still have the original set in my office.
- What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?
When I write, I need to have quiet instrumental music playing. It helps my brain remember that I am here to focus on writing.
