Author Interview

  • What is your favorite genre of books? Wester historical fiction is my favorite. Why?

I grew up watching scores of cowboy shows with my dad, and I became a fan of them.

  • Are you a one project at a time author or do you have multiple projects going at once?

Definitely one at a time. I’m afraid I’d mix things up if I did more than one project at a time.

  • How has your life experience helped in your writing journey?

When I was young, I had a passion for horses. Over several years, my parents bought me three horses.  I didn’t know then but that time spent with my horses was preparing me to be a western writer. The knowledge I learned about handling horse and about hose tack was invaluable.

  • What is the funniest thing to happen in the process of writing one of your books?
We often had some good laughs in my critique group. They had a good chuckle that my horses was tiptoeing during a suspenseful scene. I agree that was pushing things, although I did read the very same thing in a novel recently by a crazy popular Christian fiction author.
  • How do you relax after a long day of writing?

I read, play some games on my phone, work in my craft room or garden.

  • Where do you find your greatest inspiration?

My greatest inspiration comes from God. He’s the one who gave me a curious mind and the ability to make up stories that make sense to readers.

  • Who is your favorite author? Karen Witemeyer Why?

If you’ve read one of her books, you’d know. Her books are always exciting and have strong characters and super interesting plots.

  • Do you have extensive outlines when writing or do you write a book as you go?

I have skeleton outlines with just the most important plot info and character descriptions.

  • Do you remember the first book you read?

No, I really don’t. What sort of impact did it make on you? Not much, since I can’t remember it. 😊 As a kid, I devoured books with horses on the front cover.

  • What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

Quiet. My recliner and my laptop, a cup of water, and the occasional piece of chocolate. That’s about it.
