Drandar is the dragon that has been prophesied. He will help the king build a strong, safe kingdom as one of his faithful knights. But Drandar doesn’t seem to fit what a knight should be or even what a real dragon should look like. He’s what Seraphina calls a “late bloomer.” Drandar is droopy, discouraged, and doubting. Review

I love all things dragons, so when I saw this book was up for review I had to read it. I thought it was a short, cute book that young ones would enjoy. Drandar struggled with feeling insecure and inferior to those around him, but with the help of his friends, he was able to see that everyone has a place and a unique set of gifts they can serve with. I think this book would create a wonderful opportunity to discuss with kids that each person can serve the Lord with their gifts. Every person will serve the Lord in a unique way, and their service will not look exactly like another person’s efforts.

The book was short and the sentence structure was simple. Each chapter was also small, so I think it would be a great introduction book for kids to start their reading journeys. I love how the story progressed, and we got to see Drandar grow into himself. I think kids would greatly benefit from reading this book and learning that, just because they are not as talented in one area as someone else, that they have great worth in their own gifts.

This book does mention magic, but it is a very small part of the book and is shown to be evil. I don’t think this should deter parents from letting their kids read it, as the part is small and not glorified in the slightest.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
