Frogman Puck Origins: The Rising Tides

The Legends Awaken: A Hero’s Dream Quest

Embark on an exhilarating journey beneath the waves—where dreams awaken, faith is tested, and a new kind of hero begins to rise.

Frogman Puck Origins introduces readers to Puck, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary dream: to explore the hidden world beneath the surface. What begins as curiosity about mysterious scuba gear in a neighbor’s shed becomes a life-changing adventure—one that carries him from the dreamlike stillness of lily pad ponds into the awe-inspiring reality of deep underwater exploration.

As Puck learns to scuba dive, he uncovers hidden strengths, long-buried secrets, and a mission far greater than he ever imagined. With each descent, the boundary between dream and destiny blurs, drawing him into a world of courage, stewardship, teamwork, and biblical truth.

Told through a unique blend of immersive prose and cinematic illustrations, the story visually mirrors Puck’s growth—shifting from the hazy wonder of childhood imagination to vivid, hyper-realistic underwater missions that place readers right beside him.

Perfect for fans of discovery, mystery, faith-based adventure, and clean action storytelling, Frogman Puck Origins: The Rising Tides is the beginning of an illustrated hero’s journey where imagination meets purpose—and the depths hold more than secrets.

More from Joel

When I set out to write Frogman Puck Origins, I wanted to bring something genuinely new to readers, both those who read constantly and those who sometimes struggle to stay engaged. I envisioned an all-new, fully illustrated novel featuring clean, epic superheroes, told in a way that feels fresh, immersive, and meaningful.
Most superhero stories begin with accidents, mistakes, or powers gained by touching a mysterious artifact. In the world of Frogman Puck, the heroes’ origins are different. Their abilities are forged through purpose, hard work, teamwork, faith, and ingenious design. The story begins with the roots of child-like memories and grows into something much larger, showing how character is built long before power is ever used.
At its heart, Frogman Puck Origins is designed to do two things at once. It invites older readers back to the wonder, curiosity, and imagination of their youth, while encouraging younger readers to dream big, work hard, and plant good seeds that will grow into strong character. It is a story about becoming, not just becoming powerful, but becoming grounded, courageous, and faithful.
The series taps into riddles, adventure, super abilities, and deep friendships, all presented in a format unlike anything else currently on the market. Readers can expect wall-crawling, SCUBA diving, flying, underwater tunnels, octopods, secret labs, personally designed base headquarters, and fierce battles between darkness and light. Every element is layered to reward curiosity and keep pages turning.
Frogman Puck Origins is only the beginning. As the series continues, the world expands, the stakes rise, and the heroes are tested in ways that challenge not only their strength but their values and faith. It is a story built to entertain, inspire, and stay with readers long after the final page.

The Frogman Puck Series is a cinematic, faith-based adventure that grows in depth and intensity with each installment. Origins begins as a dream-driven journey into underwater exploration, where curiosity, mentorship, and imagination awaken a young hero’s calling. Resurgent accelerates into a full-scale action narrative, introducing advanced symbiotic technology, global stakes, and a coordinated enemy operating in the shadows. Reckoning brings the story to its most complex and consequential phase, revealing hidden systems beneath the surface of the world itself and challenging the heroes to confront truth, deception, and sacrifice on a global scale. Across all three books, the series blends illustrated storytelling, clean action, and biblical themes to explore stewardship, courage, faith, and what it means to answer a call—one step, one mission, and one choice at a time.

Author Interview

What is your favorite genre of books? Why?

Action and adventure with elements of science fiction or fantasy have always drawn me in. I was a reluctant reader. I prayed for two qualities in books. #1 it wasn’t thicker than my thumb, and #2 it had to have pictures. This drove me to bring to others what was hard to find in my younger days. The series is already helping people who struggle with getting engaged in reading regularly. I had a picture Bible and loved studying the pictures as I read the text describing the scene. I am especially drawn to stories that operate within a clear moral framework. When I read the Biblical accounts, I see the supernatural woven throughout real history. The twists, the battles, the moments of divine intervention, and the rise and fall of nations all carry an epic scale that rivals any modern story.

Mankind has always been fascinated with the supernatural. The battle between light and darkness stretches as far back as we can see. Many stories explore power, but not all point to the right source of it. When Christian action adventure or faith-based sci-fi is done well, it can inspire courage, discipline, and conviction. It can remind readers that heroism is not self-exalting but sacrificial. Ultimately, the stories that stay with me are the ones that quietly point to Truth in Christ rather than redefining it.

Are you a one-project-at-a-time author, or do you have multiple projects going at once?

I focus on one book at a time, but there are always multiple layers developing within the Frogman Puck world. While writing Frogman Puck Origins and later Frogman Puck: Resurgent, I found that the story itself required full attention. Now, as I work through Frogman Puck: Reckoning, the scope has grown more structured and intentional.

If I am not writing, I am refining imagery, building cinematic scenes, or developing visual consistency for the Christian illustrated novels under MJChanacaPublishing. Because the series is fully illustrated with epic underwater exploration and disciplined action sequences, I spend time thinking about pacing, visual beats, and how each scene lands emotionally. It is not just writing a clean teen fiction story. It is building an immersive world where design, teamwork, and purpose all matter.

How has your life experience helped in your writing journey?

My life experience shaped everything about this series. Growing up outdoors, building forts, exploring woods and water, and later serving in law enforcement as a game warden all influenced the tone of Frogman Puck Origins and the books that followed.

I have faced real conflict, real danger, and real responsibility. I have seen people at their best and at their worst.

That perspective helps ground the action in reality. It keeps the underwater missions, SCUBA diving sequences, and high-stakes moments anchored in something believable.

Serving in conservation law enforcement deepened my understanding of justice, stewardship, discipline, and redemption. Those themes naturally became part of this Biblical worldview fiction series. Even difficult seasons in my life became material that strengthened the narrative. Over time, I realized that nothing is wasted. What you live through often becomes the foundation for what you create.

What is the funniest thing to happen in the process of writing one of your books?

Without question, it is my cat jumping onto the keyboard and deleting entire sections of a chapter. For a series that involves intense underwater exploration, wall-crawling, flying, and carefully structured action sequences, being temporarily defeated by a house cat keeps things humbling. Her name is Josie. She was just a kitten when I was working, blue lights flashing, and she was in the roadway. She bounces off walls, drinks from the tub, and spreads out on my lap when I write.

How do you relax after a long day of writing?

Ironically, I often relax from a long day in law enforcement by writing or working on artwork for the Frogman Puck series. Both feel creative and restorative.

If I am not writing Christian books for boys/girls or refining visual elements for the illustrated novels, I spend time outdoors in the woods, along creeks, in the ocean, or in the swamps. Being alone in creation allows me to observe the detail and order woven into the natural world.

That quiet time resets everything. It reminds me why themes like stewardship, discipline, and purpose matter so much in stories aimed at young readers navigating their own battles.

Where do you find your greatest inspiration?

The parables and narratives of the Bible are some of the greatest stories ever told. They have inspired countless artists, filmmakers, and authors across generations.

I often hear direct Biblical themes echoed in mainstream action and science fiction stories, even when they are not labeled as faith-based.

Scripture continues to be the deepest well of inspiration for me. It shapes the moral architecture beneath the action in Frogman Puck Origins, Frogman Puck: Resurgent, and the upcoming Frogman Puck: Reckoning.

The goal is to point to the Truth and to reflect a world where design, order, sacrifice, and redemption are real.

Do you have extensive outlines when writing, or do you write as you go?

Frogman Puck Origins was written almost entirely as it unfolded. There was structure in my mind, but much of it developed organically.

Frogman Puck: Resurgent involved more discussion, proposed beats, chapter titles, and progression points.

By the time I began Frogman Puck: Reckoning, the process became much more structured. There were charts, circles, arrows, escalating conflicts, mapped chapters, and intentional pacing. So far, Reckoning has been the most challenging installment, both structurally and spiritually.

Each book has grown in complexity alongside the characters.

What do you need in your writing space to stay focused?

I have never needed much structure. Usually, there is a cat on my lap and a dog pressed against my leg. If I can reach the keyboard, I am ready.

Of course, there are interruptions. Emails, phone calls, doorbells, and letting the dog outside can break momentum. But when those quiet, uninterrupted moments arrive, something shifts. You begin to see where the scene is going. Unexpected ideas drop into the narrative. One leads to another.

Those are the moments when it feels like the words are coming alive on the page. And in a Christian action adventure series that centers on discipline, teamwork, underwater missions, and faith under pressure, those moments matter. They often shape the scenes readers remember most.
