Do you have a personal mantra that guides you? Have you ever felt God’s presence so strongly that it seemed as if He was right beside you? Do you seek His wisdom when faced with tough decisions?

For me, my constant prayer is “Not in my own strength, Lord. Not in my own strength. Guide me. Direct me. Help me.” Since childhood I have experienced God’s undeniable presence, leading me in ways both profound and personal. There are moments when I turn, expecting to see someone beside me, only to realize it is His unseen nearness. When uncertainty arises, I seek clarity through prayer and my own version of the ancient Thummim and Urim – trusting Him to reveal the way forward. God Storys is a compilation of 30 true, standalone vignettes that testify to these Divine encounters – extraordinary moments that are not mere coincidences, but God-instances. May these stories inspire you, strengthen your faith, and open your eyes to His presence in your own life.

About the Author

Born at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles during one of the city’s largest earthquakes, I took my first breath as the building swayed and the gurney rolled – my parents recount a dramatic beginning marked by both chaos and grace. Life since then has been rich with God’s goodness, meaningful relationships, and profound learning. It has also brought seasons of hardship, loss and shame – yet grace has always abounded.  I am the mother of seven children, two of whom are already in heaven. My five God-fearing, compassionate, and well-educated adult children live in five U. S. states. My greatest joy is spending time with them and my 14 adorable grandchildren. I have spent most of my life working in healthcare and continue to serve part time in my orofacial myofunctional therapy private practice in San Diego County and beyond. I am passionate about proclaiming all that God has done.

I have been asked, “What is the purpose of this book? I believe that the answer to that question lies in the fact that you are holding this book in your hands and reading these God storys. That is not a coincidence; it is another God incidence. I do not believe in coincidence. I believe that our lives and our world are beautifully orchestrated by a very personal, very relational Creator.

This book is not about me; it is not about spiritual one-upmanship. This book is all about Him … about having a relationship with Him. I am an ordinary person; I am an ordinary Christian. I am merely His scribe writing out of obedience. Even the cover and subtitle of this book reflect God storys. I photographed the sunset from my front door before this book was ever written. The song that I refer to “The Truth”, reflects our royal relationship with Him as our King. The lock on the cover is to be unlocked as you explore your own relationship with Him, the God Who breathed life into our nostrils.

Author Interview

  • What is your favorite genre of books? Why?

My favorite genre of books, since childhood, have been mysteries. I would spend many hours in a weekend afternoon reading Nancy Drew books and other crime solving stories. I believe that reading mysteries for so much of my life has contributed to my critical thinking skills. I know those critical thinking skills have translated into discernment and an understanding of theology.

  • Are you a one project at a time author or do you have multiple projects going at once?

At this juncture in my life, I am currently a one book published author. Therefore, technically, I am a one project at a time author. However, my imaginative, God-given mind, rarely stops thinking and creating and I always have multiple projects going on in my head concurrently. Not all of those projects are writing projects, but I usually muse about ideas for additional books. The additional books might be illustrated children’s books or fictional stories or volume 2 of my/His non-fiction, true, God Storys.

  • How has your life experience helped in your writing journey?

As a one book published author of the volume, God Storys, my life experiences constitute all 30 of the true, standalone vignettes.

I grew up watching my mother be a prolific writer and a reader/editor for the local junior college’s English department. Initially her writing was journaling and letter writing and later on in her life she wrote and illustrated a children’s book that she never officially published. I believe because of those observations early on in my life that I assumed that writing was just part of living and writing was never anything that was perceived as difficult or daunting. In elementary school, I enjoyed Spelling Bees and that grew into a love for words. I had favorite words because of how they sounded when pronounced and how they rolled off of my tongue when spoken. For me, my like for words naturally transitioned into a like for writing. In my youth I wrote poetry. As I got older, I journaled about my days and thoughts in a diary and exchanged letters with an international Pen Pal in Brazil. Writing became an important method of communication in my relationships. In my adult life, I journaled my God Storys as they occurred. It was about 10 years ago when God directed me to actually write out those stories. Hence, from that, my first book was, written, published …”Born”!

  • What is the funniest thing to happen in the process of writing one of your books?

One of the funniest things to happen while I was in the process of writing my book was the story of what I call my Costco Angel. I was taking a break from writing and needed to run an errand to Costco. However, I was, and had been, for a few days in an unusual funk. I rarely get depressed or down, but I had a few days where it was so. I had to go to Costco to pick up a prescription. While I was there, I thought, Ohh, I also need chicken broth. So, I decided to get a cart and pick up the case of chicken broth but that was all that I was purchasing. As I was checking out, and all the other patrons were also checking out, all the carts were heading from the registers to the exit. Then, pushing an empty cart, against the flow of leaving carts, was a senior female. As she came alongside me, she stopped and abruptly grabbed my upper arm with both of her hands. She looked me in my eyes and she said to me “Can I tell you a joke?”  A bit rattled from her grabbing my arm, I hesitantly responded “Y-e-s?”  She asked me a question, “Why can’t Cinderella play soccer?” I looked at her questioning, not exactly sure how to respond, and I said “I don’t know! … because she was wearing glass slippers?” This senior woman looks at me and smiles and says, “Nope. Cinderella can’t play soccer because she ran from the ball.” I started laughing at such a simple, silly joke and at that moment I knew that God, with His infinite sense of humor, had sent her to me to help get me out of my funk. Now, every time I go to Costco, I look to see if my Costco Angel just happens to be there … and it makes me smile.

  • How do you relax after a long day of writing?

After a long day of writing, or working, I usually relax in one of 3 ways. My first and favorite way of relaxing is to intentionally practice Stillness. For me, Stillness is best practiced witnessing God’s majestic creation whether that be sitting on the sand staring at the Pacific Ocean or in the mountains smelling the fragrant pine trees. I never take my phone with me. When writing my/His book, God’s Storys, I frequently walked among the fragrant pines afterwards to decompress and relax. My second way of relaxing is to swim. I really enjoy being in water. Swimming is my favorite form of exercise. Fortunately, living in So. California I can swim year-round in either outside or inside pools. Lastly, I do enjoy the relaxing habit of watching movies. I like distracting my mind while watching and listening to someone else’s story. Relaxation, as a form of self-care, has never been one of my strengths. Traditionally, I have been a go and do person most of the time. However, in the last decade God has taught me the importance of self-care, relaxation and most importantly, Stillness [Prov 46:10]. Today, if I go too long in between intentional times of Stillness, I truly miss it.

  • Where do you find your greatest inspiration?

I typically find my greatest inspiration when stepping away from the busyness of life and witnessing God’s majestic creation. I relish being around water. I adore crashing, splashing waterfalls. I appreciate witnessing beautiful sunsets. I enjoy the sights and smells of breaking waves. I savor it when my senses are full of fragrance from flowers or plants.
