Christina Rost is an award-winning author, mother to three amazing children, and is married to her high school sweetheart. While she currently resides in Oklahoma City, she’s lived all over the US, a few years in the UK, and loves to travel. Hidden Legacy was birthed from a story I read about a woman living in North Korea who buried her Bible in her garden. In the dead of night, when her family slept, she would carefully dig it up, brush off the soil, and read by the faint glow of moonlight—knowing discovery could mean imprisonment, torture, or death for her entire household.

Her courage reminds me that God’s Word is not just comforting; in places like North Korea, it is life itself.

This harrowing story, and others like the North Korean believers, sheds light on how often I take for granted the freedom I enjoy. Here in my home, multiple Bibles rest openly on shelves—different translations, study editions, even large-print versions I can read without fear. I flip through them casually during quiet times and discuss them freely with family and friends. Yet for our brothers and sisters in North Korea, a single page of Scripture is a priceless treasure worth risking everything for.

My deepest hope is that Hidden Legacy would stir readers to learn more about our brothers and sisters in Christ living in hostile locations. Just like 1 Corinthians 12 states, we are all part of one body: “If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.” (1 Corinthians 12:26 ESV)

But not only to learn about their plight — I hope it also moves us to pray.

Pray fervently for Bibles to reach believers through every possible channel in these hostile regions. Pray for God to protect and strengthen the underground church.

And never forget, Love is a Legacy.

Author Interview

• What is your favorite genre of books? Why?

Romantic Suspense.   I love a good whodunit, but I just don’t attach to the story or the characters if there isn’t a romance thread involved. Sometimes opening your heart is a risk, and I love it when a great story can marry the risk of danger and love!

• Are you a one project at a time author or do you have multiple projects going at once?

I have multiple going at once. However, if I’m on a deadline I give the majority of my time to that story. When I know my date with the editor is looming, I try to stay hyper focused on one project.

• How has your life experience helped in your writing journey?

Part of my life experience as a military brat and a military wife has enabled me to learn to work with various types of people and with all types of personalities. I learned early on when there was tension to step back and think what is really going on right now?  Where is the tension really coming from?  As I pitch, work with editors, and learn to launch and market my books, I also need to navigate relationships. Writing is solitary, but if you want to publish and meet readers, you’ll need to understand people and how to build real working relationships. We write alone, but to thrive and grow we need to be a part of the writing community.  And in order to do that we need to know how to navigate feelings.

• How do you relax after a long day of writing?

I like to sit in coffee shops, maybe read or people watch. I also love wandering through antique stores. I have a few of my favorites around my house, quiet, not too many people. It’s amazing the stories you can come up with by perusing old things.

• Do you remember the first book you read? What sort of impact did it make on you?

I remember my first sweet romance books I read, When Calls the Heart by Janette Oke. My mom bought me the book set and I loved reading them. I was even convinced I might marry a Canadian Mountie one day.  I’d stare at the cover forever imagining what it might be like to live on the frontier.  I was drawn to the sweet love story and how strong and determined Elizabeth was to teach the children under her care. I think it planted a seed in me to write sweet courtship stories in modern settings, between strong, God-fearing male and female leads who were open to the idea of falling in love.

• What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

I like crunchy snacks and doodle paper. I usually have colored pencils and sticky note pads or color sheets and Peanut M & M’s close by while I’m writing.
