Author Interview
- What is your favorite genre of books? Why?
I love a good story, one that has interesting characters, an amazing character arc, and a redemptive story line. I guess you’d call it literary fiction or women’s fiction.
- Are you a one project at a time author or do you have multiple projects going at once?
As a Type A, I usually work on one project at a time. What I’ll do, however, if I get an idea for another book, I may start that one, write a few thousand words to get the idea down, then let it percolate while I finish my current project.
- Do you have extensive outlines when writing or do you write a book as you go?
Depends upon the genre. If I’m writing romance or romantic suspense, I have to have an outline to keep me on pace. If I’m working on women’s fiction, I am a total pantser.
- Do you remember the first book you read? What sort of impact did it make on you?
I am sooooo old that I remember reading Dick and Jane books. I learned to read in Kindergarten, so by the time I was in first grade, I sped through all the Dick and Jane Books. From there, I was off and running – reading anything I could get my hands on. I come from a family of readers, so having a book in my hand was natural.
- What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?
Total silence! No music, no background, and no talking. This is a challenge because I live full-time in my motor home along with an extrovert. He can’t help himself – he talks from the moment his eyes open until they close at night. He’s getting better at staying silent – after four years living in around 400 square feet!
