About the Author

Kayla E. Green is an award-winning author and poet who writes to remind others—and herself—that light always prevails over darkness. When she isn’t writing, reading, or spending time with her family, she loves singing loudly and off-key to KLove Radio and pretending she’s a unicorn. Fittingly, her YA debut fantasy novel is titled The Goodness of Unicorns.

Author Interview

• What is your favorite genre of books? Why?

If I had to pick one genre of books, as both an author and a reader, I would choose fantasy as my favorite genre. Fantasy allows one to better understand reality by navigating high stakes while remaining safe. It gives us a way to process what it means to defeat dragons in our own world. C.S. Lewis has so many good points on the fantasy genre (as well as Christianity and human nature) including “Fairy land arouses a longing for he knows not what. It stirs and troubles him (to his life-long enrichment) with the dim sense of something beyond his reach.”

2. Are you a one project at a time author or do you have multiple projects going at once?

I have multiple projects going at once, though I do have a priority order. My brain works better when I’m able to shift gears when I’m hitting a block on one work.

3. How has your life experience helped in your writing journey?

Writing is, in part, means for me to process. Moreso, writing is an act of worship. The means to create comes from our Creator. As a Christian, my worldview shapes all of my writing.

4. How do you relax after a long day of writing?

I’m a full-time parent so most of my writing is done at night after a long day of mom-ing 😆

5. Do you remember the first book you read? What sort of impact did it make on you?

Reading has always been a big part of my life thanks to my mother. She read daily to my siblings and I for years. In middle school, I joined Battle of the Books. Dealing with Dragons by Patricia Wrede was the first book that ignited my love for fantasy. I couldn’t get enough of worlds with strong princesses, dragons, and magic!
