My life is nothing like a fairy tale!

I work as a Receptionist at Hour Glass Dental and trust me, it’s just as chaotic as it sounds. Between dealing with angry patients and insurance plans, phone calls and emails, I dread my ten-hour workday as I clock in at the busiest office in Brittleton, Tennessee.

Doctor Chase Hatchett suggests that I transfer to a bigger city and climb up the corporate ladder, even implying that he may move with me. Maybe I can start a new chapter with the most eligible bachelor in the office!

But my friends Rafa, Brian and his sister help me to look at life a bit differently. My happiness may not be about chasing the promotion as much as it is about following my heart.

Whatever I decide, even in the midst of all this confusion, I hope I can find my Happily Ever After!Click here to get your copy!

More from Sunshine

I remember when I was writing the pages for Once Upon a Time… In a Dental Office. I was a receptionist at a prestigious Dentistry. I worked with these two very handsome – very charming – Dentists. And the truth is, I’d be FLOSSED without them!

And I put the pen to paper about all my personal experiences in my book. “Walking down the hallway, I hear the whizzing and churning of dental equipment as I observe room after room of patients getting their teeth cleaned from plaque buildup, or teeth getting surgically extracted or my least favorite, hearing the groans from patients receiving a root canal.” (pg. 39)

And I created a world inspired by those two Dentists. Receptionist Kay Vity is sought after by Dr. Chase Hatchett and Doctor Brian Alchan at Hour Glass Dental. And TOOTH be told, it’s a Love Story that is sure to make you “SAY AAH!”

Author Interview

  • How do you overcome writer’s block? Do you have any advice for others in finding their process to overcome it?

I give myself an allotted time to write every day. If I am stuck, I can leave the computer screen, take a little walk or have a snack to clear my mind.  But I also overcome writer’s block by…writing. I will just create scenes that don’t have anything to do with the storyline or the character development, knowing that I can always go back and edit passages or delete sentences out later. Maybe, just maybe, a great line or a great idea will spark from that creative flow.

  • Do you read the genre you write? Why or why not?

Sort of-ish. I primarily read Christian Nonfiction and I write Christian Fiction.

I have written a couple of Christian Nonfiction titles:

God the Father, Jesus the Big Brother, Holy Spirit the Best Friend

Be The Sunshine

But I do enjoy writing Fiction stories because I feel I have more room to use my imagination and to stretch my creativity rather than writing down facts and bullet-point narratives.

  • How did you come up with the title for your book?

A story about Kay Vity who works at Hour Glass Dental sounds a little mundane. But a story about Kay Vity who finds love working at Hour Glass Dental sounds a little more interesting. So, I wanted to call my piece,  Once Upon a Time… In a Dental Office because you never really know where your love story will begin.

  • What’s your favorite writing snack, drink, and/or music?

I am guilty of playing the same songs on the same CD’s over and over again as I

write. If I am writing the first draft of any novel, I will pull out one of three CD’s:

Pure Moods (contemporary, released 1994)

The Holiday Movie Soundtrack (music by Hans Zimmer)

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Movie

Soundtrack (composed by Harry Gregson-Williams and released in 2005)

I need to write with music that contain no vocals because any lyrics will just

interrupt my flow. These three CD’s offer romantic melodies, adventurous tunes

and out-of-this-world music that make me think, make me feel, offers nostalgia

and truly inspires my creativity.

  • Is your writing space pristine or organized chaos?

My writing space is pristine! I need to have everything organized! I am often

working on several novels at one time and collaborating with talented professionals

(i.e. artists, literary contributors or audio book producers)… so, I need to keep

everything together…every page, every edit, every draft… in their own folders, in

their own files with the newest dates attached so I am fully aware of where I

stopped, what I need to do next and which deadline I need to focus on for
