Author Interview

  • What is your favorite genre of books? Why?

My favorite genre of books is romantic comedy followed by historical romance and romantic suspense. I can’t choose just one! J

  • Are you a one project at a time author or do you have multiple projects going at once?

Right now I have multiple projects going. Some are stories I’ve set aside to finish others, but I typically have more than one in the works.

  • How has your life experience helped in your writing journey?

My life experience has helped my writing journey in that I’m discipled (almost to a fault) and organized. I crave writing time and have had to choose which days to write so that I still have a personal and social life.

  • What is the funniest thing to happen in the process of writing one of your books?

The funniest thing to happen in the process of writing one of my books is discovering something about myself, my husband, or my family/friends that I didn’t realize. All of a sudden, it’s there on the page and I’m flabbergasted or in hysterics over it.

  • How do you relax after a long day of writing?

I relax in our spa after a long day of writing. My hubby cranks the temperature to 100 degrees and we’ll talk about our day or simply soak. We’d never owned a spa until two years ago, and had no idea what we were missing. It’s a wonderful way to relax.

  • Where do you find your greatest inspiration?

My greatest inspiration comes from praying and reading the Bible. Through various authors, God’s word leaps off the page, and I’m encouraged and inspired to create characters that shine for Him.

  • Who is your favorite author? Why?

My favorite author … I’m honestly hard-pressed to identify just one.

I love C.S. Lewis, Charles Dickens, Lee Strobel, Laura Hillenbrand, Lisa Wingate, Louisa May Alcott, Gabrielle Meyer.

  • Do you have extensive outlines when writing or do you write a book as you go?

My writing style is called “pantser.” I write by the seat of my pants but only to the middle of the novel. Then, I usually outline my way to the end of the story.

  • Do you remember the first book you read? What sort of impact did it make on you?

The first book I ever read was the Bible. At a young age, I’d grab a flashlight, hop under the covers, and read instead of going to sleep. I didn’t understand much but I knew God loved me. J

  • What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

To stay focused in my writing space I need quiet, coffee, and chocolate. I might be able to do without the coffee or the chocolate, but quiet is a must.
