Author: Cecil Taylor

Release date: September 17, 2024
Singing in unison is when all voices sing the same note, at the same time, to emphasize the text. Similarly, families need to parent in unison to emphasize the message they want to send to their children.
Cecil Taylor uses his personal parenting experience, and those of the families he’s taught and ministered to over decades, to create unique foundational strategies for unison parenting within a Christian context. Learn how to stay on the same page throughout the trials of parenting, provide children with a solid faith foundation, and balance loving nature with firm boundaries to create a warm, stable environment where the child and parent can eventually collaborate to bring the child to full, responsible adulthood.
Whether in a traditional or nontraditional family structure, Unison Parenting leads parents through the ages and stages of childhood into mature adulthood. Additionally, Cecil lays out parenting fundamentals to manage your child’s growing need for independence during their teen years, while gradually building trust through incremental decision-making.

So I told the boys to be good for five minutes while I went up to sing. What could go wrong? They were right there where I could see them.
Well, my focus was not so much on my children except to know that they were still there, behind some standing adults in prior rows. I could tell they were very involved with something, but that’s it. When I returned from singing, the boys proudly showed me what they had been doing: decorating each other’s faces with Sharpies!
After some research on Sharpie removal and plenty of washing (Sara says, “Lots of scrubbing. LOTS of scrubbing!”), the boys were clean again and had learned a lesson from their decision. They never made that mistake again! (Nor did I, for that matter!)
Ages Six to Twelve
The next adaptation to your parenting is that the child can gradually begin to make decisions within a structure, where you evaluate alternatives together, discuss pros and cons at times, narrow the options to something like A–B–C, and allow the child to choose.
You’re still providing a pretty stout safety net to protect against consequences of decisions, and you retain veto power.
